Yamada Glass Edo Kiriko Crystal Sake Glass - Sazanami 漣 (Pink)
"Sazanami" (漣 / さざなみ) - Ripples
Inspired by the quiet rhythm of ripples across still water, the Sazanami series expresses subtle motion through masterful craftsmanship. Each piece—whether a sake glass or whisky tumbler—is handcrafted using the Edo Kiriko technique, where layered glass is cut with precision to reveal a dynamic interplay of light, depth, and texture.
This design draws on the language of waves, blending two distinct patterns to evoke the shifting nature of water. One features bold, deeply carved lines—strong and expressive, like waves stirred by the wind. The other highlights the traditional Seigaiha (Qinghai wave) motif, rendered with rich color and delicate repetition. The two flow together in harmony, unified by a smooth, continuous rim that completes the composition with quiet elegance.

Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)
Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpo 5), when Kaga-ya Kyubei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Odenmacho district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.
During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster
Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
