Who makes Cakeland bakeware?
Cakeland is the baking brand CAKE LAND, run since 1978 by Tigercrown Co., Ltd., a confectionery-equipment maker based in Tsubame, Niigata that plans the tools and has local companies make them.
Who is behind the Cakeland name?
The tins in our baking section carry Cakeland and the shelf is called Tiger Crown. Both names belong to one company: Tigercrown Co., Ltd., written 株式会社タイガークラウン, headquartered in Tsubame, Niigata Prefecture. Its company page traces the business to October 1959 as a one-person general hardware business under Kobayashi Suematsu and formal incorporation to June 1971. It lists 24 staff across confectionery, cooking and storage products. Its July 1978 history says 製菓用品部門をブランド名”CAKE LAND”とし、より充実を図る, meaning the confectionery supplies division was given the brand name CAKE LAND. CAKE LAND is the baking brand, while Tigercrown is the company named on the shelf.
Where are Cakeland tools made?
Tigercrown's company policy says it uses local companies as producers and has no factory of its own. The same page says the company plans and develops its own confectionery, cooking and storage products. The CAKE LAND brand page says the products are made in Tsubame-Sanjo, Japan. Read together, the sources say Tigercrown plans and develops the tools, local companies make them, and CAKE LAND products are made in Tsubame-Sanjo. The site does not name the local producer companies, and Tigercrown says it owns no factory, so it identifies no single production facility.

What are the moulds made of?
The maker's material page identifies several families represented in this range. Alstar is aluminium-plated steel, used for lidded loaf pans; it is tougher than aluminium and bakes evenly, but can rust, so cold setting is possible but not recommended. Gilua is chrome plated steel, and the maker says not to use neutral detergent: wash it quickly in hot water and wipe it dry. Stainless steel appears in the cone mould set, while silicone appears in the baking mat and food brush. See the maker's full mould material guide for the other material families. Plain aluminium moulds are light and very quick to heat, but the maker notes aluminium is weak to acids and alkalis, so some batters call for care; moisture can blacken it too.
How do you look after the tins?
The care instructions in this section come from Tigercrown's FAQ for home customers and its mould-material page. For first use, the maker says to empty-bake the loaf-pan body and lid separately at about 150 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes, wipe away any oil or debris while the tin is hot, apply a thin coat of shortening while it is still warm, then empty-bake at about 240 degrees for about 20 minutes. The maker says the colour change from empty-baking is normal. For rust, use fine sandpaper, wash with neutral detergent, dry, oil inside and empty-bake at about 200 degrees for about 10 minutes. If the rust smell remains, replace the mould. For chrome plated Gilua moulds, the maker says not to use neutral detergent: wash them quickly in hot water and wipe them dry. On black coated moulds, scratches can let moisture in and cause discolouration, so keep the coating unscratched. Turn the reusable pastry bag inside out, wash it with neutral detergent, soak it for about 30 minutes in diluted oxygen bleach when oil or odour builds up, dry it completely and store it hygienically; damp or soiled storage can cause odour and mould. Tigercrown's published pages and FAQ do not answer three further care questions: a maximum oven temperature, whether the moulds are dishwasher safe, or how to clean caramelised sugar.
Quick answers
These are the questions people ask us most often about Cakeland, answered briefly.
Is Cakeland the same company as Tiger Crown? Yes. Tigercrown Co., Ltd. of Tsubame City in Niigata Prefecture has run its confectionery supplies division as the brand CAKE LAND since July 1978, so the name on the tin and the name on the shelf belong to one company.
Where are Cakeland tools made? Tigercrown describes itself as a maker without its own factory, with local companies as its producers; its CAKE LAND page says the products are made in Tsubame-Sanjo in Japan. The site names no individual producer company or production facility.
Do Cakeland loaf tins need seasoning before first use? The maker's FAQ says yes for its loaf pans: empty-bake the body and lid separately at about 150 degrees for about 20 minutes, wipe them while hot, rub in a thin coat of shortening, then empty-bake at about 240 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Can Cakeland moulds go in the dishwasher? The maker's published guidance does not say. Its FAQ covers seasoning, rust and scratch care but gives no dishwasher rule and no maximum oven temperature.
What do we carry from Cakeland? As of 2 September 2026 we list 26 Cakeland products: 24 bakeware listings, one heat resistant silicone food brush and one sugar shaker; check the baking and Tiger Crown collection pages for current availability.
