This is a Seto-ware indigo grid deep plate: a soft checkered pattern in indigo, made for mains, noodles and saucy dishes.
Seto ware is one of Japan's oldest pottery traditions, renowned for glaze work, and this plate leans on a dyeing-inspired glaze style the listing calls kozome. The gently rounded form carries a real depth.
The maker says it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
