Nemoto Glass Edo Kiriko Whisky Glass by Kosho Nemoto - Shizuku 雫 (Black)
"Shizuku" (雫 / しずく) - Droplet
Designed by third-generation craftsman Kosho Nemoto, Shizuku (雫), meaning “droplet,” captures the quiet elegance of a single drop of water at the moment it meets the surface—delicate, fleeting, and full of motion.
Handcrafted using the traditional Edo Kiriko technique, this whisky glass features refined cuts that echo the soft curves and subtle tension of falling water. Light moves fluidly across each facet, creating gentle shifts in depth and reflection as the glass is turned in the hand.
True to the Nemoto family's approach, every surface is polished with care and precision, honoring a legacy of craftsmanship that values time, trust, and beauty over convenience. The result is a piece that feels light yet grounded—simple in form, yet rich in expression.
Nemoto Glass Company (根本硝子工芸)
Founded by Yukio Nemoto (根本幸雄), Nemoto Glass is a family-run Edo Kiriko workshop renowned for its dedication to craftsmanship—especially its masterful hand-polishing techniques. While most finishing processes prioritize speed and efficiency, Yukio Nemoto believed in a different approach: devoting time and care to every piece, resulting in glass of remarkable clarity and refinement.
His philosophy, “Never cutting corners means never betraying the trust of our customers,” consistently took precedence over profit. This uncompromising spirit has been passed down through three generations—from Yukio, to his son Tatsuya Nemoto (根本達也), and now to his grandson Kosho Nemoto (根本幸昇)—each upholding and evolving the tradition with the same integrity.
Today, Nemoto Glass continues to honor that legacy. With a quiet devotion to quality, the workshop preserves the timeless beauty of Edo Kiriko while shaping its future, one piece at a time.
Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)
Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpō 5), when Kaga-ya Kyūbei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Ōdenmachō district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.
During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster
Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
