Nemoto Glass Company (根本硝子工芸)

Most finishing polishes focus on efficiency and minimizing effort. However, 根本幸雄 (Yukio Nemoto), the previous generation, devoted countless hours to hand-polishing, producing glass of exceptional clarity and beauty.

His philosophy—"Never cutting corners means never betraying the trust of our customers"—was always prioritized over profit or efficiency.

This unwavering dedication has been passed down through three generations: from 根本幸雄 (Yukio Nemoto) – the first generation, to his son, 根本達也 (Tatsuya Nemoto) – the second generation, and to his grandson, 根本幸昇 (Kosho Nemoto) – the third generation, preserving and advancing the Edo Kiriko tradition.

Founded by 根本幸雄 (Yukio Nemoto), Nemoto Glass Craft has become a distinguished Edo Kiriko workshop, known for its masterful hand-polishing techniques. This commitment to excellence endures, preserving the timeless beauty of Edo Kiriko.

Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)

Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpō 5), when Kaga-ya Kyūbei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Ōdenmachō district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.

During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster

Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
