"Sasanoha" 笹の葉 - Bamboo Leave

The "Sasanoha" sake cup embodies precision craftsmanship, blending the Hakkaku Kagome 八角篭目 (Octagonal Basket Weave) pattern with bold, sweeping cuts inspired by bamboo leaves. This fusion of traditional Edo Kiriko motifs results in a striking and cohesive design.

When viewed from above, the intricate cuts create a dynamic, kaleidoscopic effect, enhancing the visual depth and complexity of the piece.

Made from high-transparency crystal glass, this cup boasts exceptional clarity and a substantial weight, offering both durability and refined aesthetics. A perfect choice for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)

Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpo 5), when Kaga-ya Kyubei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Odenmacho district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.

During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster

Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
