This is an Ikenaga cast iron kettle, the Tetu design with a one-thousand-millilitre capacity, for boiling water on the stove.
Ikenaga continues the Nambu ironware tradition of Iwate, casting pieces by traditional methods. The enamel-lined interior wipes clean easily, and the maker says the surface gains character the longer it is used. The Tetu shape was designed by furniture designer Makoto Koizumi with daily use in mind, and its handle folds down. The maker lists it for gas, induction and charcoal fire; if your IH unit is 200V or higher, use low to medium heat.
Everything on it gets hot during use, including the handle, so the maker says to use potholders. Wash by hand without detergent, sponge or brush, and wipe it with a cloth while still hot to build the sheen.
Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
