This is a set of small Kutani-ware dishes, each printed with a different cat face, at about nine centimetres across.
Kutani ware began in seventeenth-century Kutani, now part of Kaga in Ishikawa, and is known for strong overglaze colour, with its five-colour gosai palette of green, blue, yellow, purple and red the best-known style. The listing notes that, being handmade, the dishes can differ slightly in size, colour and pattern.
Small dishes like these end up holding sauce, condiments, tapas or the snack nobody has a plate for. They come in a Kutani ware gift box. Hand washing is recommended; the listing says they are microwave safe.
