This is a Shigaraki coffee cup and saucer in the Ash Brush design, the one-hundred-and-eighty-millilitre mug size.

Shigaraki ware comes from Shigaraki-cho in Koka City, Shiga, and is counted among Japan's six oldest kilns and a recognised traditional craft. Its feldspar-rich clay picks up scarlet fire marks and a natural ash glaze in the wood kiln, so the surface varies from piece to piece. The name Hechimon is a Shigaraki craftsman's term for something that feels unusual or unique, and the workshop leans into that: each vessel keeps its own expression. The listing names the ash-brush finish in the title but describes no further detail of how it was applied.

This Hechimon set is the robust kind: the listing says both cup and saucer are dishwasher and microwave safe.

Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
