This is a Shigaraki yam leaf large plate, an oval ceramic platter shaped and textured like a leaf, made for shared dishes, sashimi and sushi at the middle of the table.
Shigaraki ware, made in Koka City in Shiga, counts among Japan's oldest kiln sites and is a recognised traditional craft. Its feldspar-rich clay earns scarlet fire marks and natural ash glaze in the firing, which is where the earthy texture comes from. The leaf form carries that character: an earthy textured surface, rich in tone, with a generous rim that frames whatever you pile on it.
The listing says the dishwasher is fine, and notes each handmade plate differs subtly.
