This is a Banko-ware clay pot in a chrysanthemum pattern, a mid-size do nabe for simmered and hot-pot cooking.
The Banko name puts it among the pottery of the Banko kilns, and the listing places the do nabe tradition in Japan's Iga province: porous clay that builds heat slowly, holds it well, and turns a portable burner into a centrepiece for group meals. Rice, soup, stew, shabu-shabu and sukiyaki all come out of a pot like this.
It runs on gas or direct fire and can go in the oven and microwave, but not induction. A clay pot asks for specific habits: never store leftovers in it, let it cool fully before washing, clean it with warm water and a soft sponge with a rinse before any soap sits, and never leave it soaking, since the clay drinks water and damp clay grows mould and odours. It is not a dishwasher pot.
Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
