This is a Banko-ware clay pot rice cooker in brown, a donabe sized by cups of rice rather than litres.
Cooking rice in a donabe gives even heat and the slightly crispy bottom layer the Japanese call okoge, and the porous clay is said to lift the flavour and aroma of the grain. This pot comes in a five cup and a seven cup size, so it scales from a household of two to a shared table. The listing places the wider do nabe tradition in Iga province; Banko names the maker.
It runs on gas or direct fire and can go in the oven and microwave, not induction. A clay pot asks for specific habits: never store leftovers in it, let it cool fully before washing, clean it with warm water and a soft sponge with a rinse before any soap sits, and never leave it soaking, since the clay drinks water and damp clay grows mould and odours. It is not a dishwasher pot.
Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
