This is an Edo Kiriko whisky glass by Junichi Nabetani, cut with large, sweeping facets in purple and red over a heavy crystal base.
Nabetani calls this cut Yoen, enchanting, and it breaks from the usual fine, even repeats: the facets are wide and deep, and the base carries the finer chrysanthemum-link and dot cutting most Edo Kiriko keeps to the sides. Layered colour sits under the cuts, so the glass shifts between deep purple, crimson and the highlights as the light moves.
Nabetani Glass Crafts is a family workshop in Tokyo's Ota ward, cut on crystal that comes from Kagami and from Fukagawa Glass. It's a heavy glass, built for whisky rather than a quick shot, and it's worth holding up to a lamp before you drink from it.
Wash it by hand in warm water with a soft sponge, never a scourer, and give it two rinses so no soap film dulls the cut. Keep it out of the dishwasher and away from sudden changes in temperature.
Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
