This is a Kagami plate, cut with the Yarai, bamboo-fence, pattern in clear crystal.
Yarai is a diagonal lattice pattern named for the crossed bamboo fencing it resembles, cut here into crystal glass left in full clarity, so light and colour from the food underneath show through.
Kagami is the Tokyo crystal house that forms its own blanks before anyone cuts them, and it is the maker most of our Edo Kiriko shelf starts with. Use it for something cold and colourful: jelly, ice-cream, sashimi, or a few pieces of fruit, so the clarity underneath does its job.
Wash it by hand in warm water with a soft sponge, never a scourer, and give it two rinses so no soap film sits in the cut lines. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the microwave, and away from sudden changes in temperature.
