About Hagi-ware(萩燒)

Hagi-ware is a traditional Japanese pottery style that originated over 400 years ago in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Known for its soft, earthy tones and subtle textures, Hagi ware reflects the wabi-sabi aesthetic—finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity.

One of its most distinctive features is the fine crackle pattern, or crazing, that appears on the surface of the glaze. Over time, as tea or liquids seep into these fine lines, the piece develops a unique patina, a process known as "Hagi no nanabake"—the "Seven Transformations of Hagi." This aging process makes each item more personal and beautiful with use.
