Kikukagome (菊籠目) - Chrysanthemum Basket Weave

The "Kiku Kagome, 菊籠目" glass showcases an exquisite fusion of two intricate patterns: "Kiku-tsunagi, 菊繋ぎ" (Chrysanthemum Link) and "Kagome, 籠目" (Basket Weave). This sophisticated design demands exceptional craftsmanship, making it a true testament to masterful Edo Kiriko artistry.

The Kiku-tsunagi pattern features delicate chrysanthemum-like cuts, while the Kagome pattern leaves hexagonal or octagonal facets on the surface. Together, they create a mesmerizing effect, as if sapphire-blue and ruby-red gemstones were scattered across the glass, radiating brilliance.

While this glass is stunning enough to be admired as an art piece, it is best enjoyed with your favorite drink, allowing you to experience both its beauty and functionality.

Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)

Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpo 5), when Kaga-ya Kyubei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Odenmacho district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.

During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster

Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
