About Kutani Ware (九谷焼, Kutani-yaki)

Kutani ware (九谷焼, Kutani-yaki) is a traditional Japanese porcelain style that originated in Kutani, now part of Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the 17th century. Renowned for its vibrant colors and intricate designs, it often features landscapes, birds, flowers, and traditional patterns. Its signature overglaze enamels, including reds, greens, yellows, blues, and purples, create a rich, expressive look.

The harsh Hokuriku winters are believed to have inspired its bold aesthetics. The five-color style, or gosai-de (五彩手), features green, blue, yellow, purple, and red, with designs often covering most of the surface, depicting nature and classical motifs.

Each piece is handcrafted, preserving a deep cultural heritage while embracing modern creativity. More than tableware, Kutani ware is a functional work of art, perfect for dining or display, adding elegance to any home.
