This is a small Kutani-ware cup in black, hand painted with a floral design, sized for sake or a dipping dish.

It is made by Kokuzougama, a workshop at the foot of Mt. Kokuzo in Kutani that the listing describes as a house of modern Kutani, handmade and hand painted. Kutani ware began in seventeenth-century Kutani, now part of Kaga in Ishikawa, and is known for strong overglaze colour, with its five-colour gosai palette of green, blue, yellow, purple and red the best-known style.

The tags and listing both note it works as a sauce or condiment dish as readily as a sake cup. Hand washing is recommended, and the listing says it is microwave safe.

Most of our products are handmade in Japan, and sometimes the one that you receive maybe slightly different to the photo. This is very common and in no way it will affect the performance of the product.
