This is a Saji Pottery Banko-ware clay pot, the tokusa pattern in an earthy tone.
Saji Pottery is a ceramic workshop in Mie Prefecture known for its traditional donabe, and the Banko name places it in the same Yokkaichi pottery district behind most Japanese clay cookware. It comes in a size eight and a size nine, both sized for real family cooking rather than a demo.
It runs on gas or direct fire and can go in the oven and microwave, but not induction. A clay pot asks for specific habits: never store leftovers in it, let it cool fully before washing, clean it with warm water and a soft sponge with a rinse before any soap sits, and never leave it soaking, since the clay drinks water and damp clay grows mould and odours. It is not a dishwasher pot.
