"Yamashita Haku’u" (山下白雨 / やました はくう) – Beneath the Mountain, a Summer Rainfall

Drawing inspiration from the fleeting beauty of a sudden summer rain falling beneath a quiet mountain, the Yamashita Haku’u series captures a moment suspended in nature—ephemeral, tranquil, and full of quiet energy.

Each piece, whether sake glass or whisky tumbler, is handcrafted using traditional Edo Kiriko techniques, where light, layers, and precision-cut patterns converge to evoke the sensation of rainfall drifting through a mountainous landscape. The intricate faceting and overlay glasswork recall not only the shimmer of raindrops but also the serenity found in solitude and seasonal change.

Available in a range of colors and forms, the series invites both reflection and celebration—whether enjoyed in everyday ritual or as a treasured gift. “Yamashita Haku’u” is a tribute to nature’s poetry, expressed through glass, and passed from the hands of the artisan to yours.

Edo Kiriko (江戸切子)

Edo Kiriko, Japan’s exquisite cut glass craft, dates back to 1834 (Tenpo 5), when Kaga-ya Kyubei, a glass merchant in Edo’s Odenmacho district, first engraved patterns onto glass using emery.

During the Meiji era, as Western knowledge spread, Edo glassmaking merged with European cut glass techniques, shaping the Edo Kiriko we cherish today. This craft is now officially recognized as a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

Precision Cutting & Luminous Luster

Authenticity in Edo Kiriko lies in the details. True craftsmanship is revealed through razor-sharp edges, intricate patterns, and a breathtaking luster—achieved only through expert hand-polishing. Each piece reflects the artisan’s dedication, skill, and deep-rooted passion for the craft.
