This is a Yamada sake cup cut with the Yamashita Haku'u, beneath-the-mountain summer-rain, pattern.

The name describes a sudden rain shower passing under a mountain, and the cutting follows that idea loosely rather than literally: fine, layered facets stand in for rainfall, cut through a colour overlay that varies by version. It's a Yamada design rather than one of the old traditional pattern names.

Yamada Glass is one of the Tokyo houses we buy from on every trip, known for putting its own new names on the classic cuts. It's sized for sake, and there's a matching whisky glass in the same cut if you want the larger version.

Wash it by hand in warm water with a soft sponge, never a scourer, and give it two rinses so no soap film dulls the cut. Keep it out of the dishwasher and away from sudden changes in temperature.
