This is a Hirota Taisho Romantic glass cup in the Scale pattern, a three-hundred-millilitre tumbler.
Taisho Roman names the look: the listing explains that the glass is made with an ash-containing raw material pushed through a sudden temperature change while moulding, an aburidashi technique that produces opalescent patterns in the glass. It also notes glassware made this way is rare now outside specialist shops. Scale is the pattern name on this listing.
Hirota Glass has worked in Tokyo for well over a century, blending European glass techniques with Japanese traditions such as blown glass and Edo Kiriko cutting. Not recommended for the microwave or dishwasher.
