This is a magnetic knife guard for blades with an edge up to 10cm.
The guard was designed by Jiu Studio around magnets rather than a friction fit: it flips open so the knife goes in and out with less force, nothing rubs against the blade's finish, and it does not loosen the way a plastic guard can over time. The listing notes the one-piece design carries with less bulk than a knife roll, though it will not give the classic look or maximum protection of a solid wooden saya.
Wipe the guard over now and then, and make sure the knife is dry before it goes in.
