This is a Shigaraki-ware mug and saucer set from Hechimon, a two-hundred-and-sixty-millilitre retro mug with its matching dish.
The listing carries the Shigaraki story: the ware comes from Shigaraki-cho in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, counts among Japan's six old kilns with a history it puts at over twelve hundred years, and is known for rustic, fire-resistant stoneware whose feldspar- and quartz-rich clay takes hi-iro scarlet fire marks and natural ash glaze in the firing. Hechimon itself is explained as an old Shigaraki term for something wonderfully odd, and the pieces keep their handmade differences. Both are handmade, so size, colour and pattern vary.
The listing is firm on care: not safe for the microwave or the dishwasher. Hand wash is safest. The set arrives in a Shigaraki ware paper gift box.
