This is a pair of Kutani-ware bowls painted with peonies in the Yoshidaya style, sold as a large and small bowl together in one box.
The listing notes that Yoshida Kiln is known for leaning on yellow and green over floral themes, and that the peony stands for riches, prosperity and honour in Asian culture. The ware itself is placed in Kutani, now part of Kaga in Ishikawa Prefecture, from the seventeenth century. Both bowls are hand-painted, with subtle differences expected, and they arrive in a Kutani-ware paper gift box.
